Be yourself... Like this!

I am so glad I'm married and not dating anymore!

Do people really think this way? Judging a date by what the person orders?

I can't remember for the life of me what Leander ate on our first date.

Did you think less of me for ordering pasta, Dear?

  1. I definitely think the NYT was being a bit overblown (no surprise there) but I have refused second dates with guys who were jerks and/or weird about the first date. I mean, if someone's going to spend ten minutes agonizing out loud over whether the caeser salad is going to make them fat (this happened to me once!), even if they are a wonderful person, I just don't have the energy for that. It might be that they are just having a bad day, or their dad just had a heart attack, or they might have deep seated nueroses about food that's going to make it impossible to share a meal with them without enormous amounts of angst. On the first date, you haven't got enough emotionally invested in them and it's easier to cut and run at the first sign of impending trouble.

IMO, it's just another part of the first impression, just like "Does he tell obnoxious jokes that aren't funny?" or "Is he rude to the waitstaff?"

Of course, I can't remember what Mike ordered on our first date, but clearly he didn't do anything terribly unusual or weird to send me running for the hills :)
